Düsseldorf |
Lying at the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Düssel, the cosmopolitan city of Düsseldorf enjoys an international reputation as an exhibition city. It is also renowned as the fashion capital of Germany and this is evident on the Königsallee, universally known as 'the Kö', with its elegant boutiques, cafés, restaurants and arcades, situated either side of the old moat.

Düsseldorf is also a major centre for the arts, home to the German Opera House and numerous museums. The Kunstsammlung Nord-Rhine-Westfalen (Rhineland-Westphalia Art Collection), designed by Danish architects Dissing and Weitling, is one of the world's foremost modern art museums. The Hofgarten is the oldest public park in Germany. It extends to the Schloss Jägerhof that houses the Goethe Museum, complete with numerous first editions of his works.
The Old Town is an interesting historical area filled with over 200 taverns and bars. The former home of Heinrich Heine is located in the Bolkerstrasse, one of the city's busiest neighbourhoods.
